This was basically my view earlier this evening. We’re here for two weeks for our honeymoon (couldn’t go immediately and it was easier/more cost-effective to switch our flight and hotel booking than take a separate trip, so we just extended it). I’ve seen a lot of weird cars (like last time) and have just under 20G of data available to me, so I’m going to try to post weird automotive stuff in the evenings when I’m here.
The first one I noticed as a taxi. Will be saving that for another day, because I know more about it. Instead, I will leave you with this oddball thing:
Mmm, aggressive.
Check out this spare tire location!
It’s called a “RAM Adventure”. It sort of looks like a bloated Subaru Baja to me.
In other news, our taxi driver from the airport was fabulous. The best taxi ride I’ve ever had down here. Usually I fear for my life, but this guy was a great driver.
It’s the first time I’ve been in a 5-speed in ages, and I couldn’t get over how long he could go in each gear. I had grown so used to the constant shifting in the FoST (that auto drivers notice because I’m shifting so much) that I forgot how effortless it could be.

Check out non gringo Mexico while you’re there. It’s a lot more fun. I helped a guy build a house who worked as a security guard at one of those resorts once. Dude was living in a shack with his family of four on some else’s land with no running water, but went to work at a five star resort every day. He’d work all day then come home and finish up parts of the house we were helping him build. Tip the hotel staff well because they don’t pay those guys shit.

I go to this weirdass resort due to my wife’s family that started going here 20+ years ago due to heavy marketing in the western WA region (and the stupid timeshare thing). They are deathly afraid of eating anywhere that isn’t watered down beyond comprehension to what you see in the US or even going outside the tourist zones (which I hate with a burning passion).
I will happily eat at taquerias, the little shops that sell aguas frescas (in spite of being constantly warned that water and raw fruit/vegetables are deathly dangerous here, I have yet to experience any problems), etc. The market in the center of the city is a ton of fun; it’s too bad I don’t have everything I need to cook here.
Don’t worry about me. Worry about my wife and her family. I try to teach them, but they’re so afraid. I’ve been to far more dangerous places and ate far more questionable stuff many times in my life with no ill effects.
I blame it on growing up in the rough parts of Los Angeles.
As for tipping, I try to. At this point I feel like people are shocked when I do, though. Her family considers 10 pesos roughly equivalent to a dollar. I consider 20 due to the current exchange rate.
